Race to cause road closures, parking restrictions

ALBANY - Due to the CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge on Thursday night, there will be the following road closures and parking restrictions:

 

No Parking:  Noon-8:00 PM

-All roads in Washington Park-both sides of roadways

-Madison Avenue:  both sides from Eagle Street to Knox Street

-Madison Avenue:  north side from Lark Street to South Lake Avenue

-Lake Avenue:  both sides from Madison Avenue to Hudson Avenue

-Western Avenue:  both sides from South Lake Avenue to Robin Street

-Lake Avenue:  both sides from Western Avenue to Washington Avenue

-Washington Avenue:  both sides from South Lake Avenue to Sprague Place/Western Avenue

-Sprague Place:  both sides of Sprague Place into the park

 

Road Closures

-Washington Park-all roadways (4 PM- 8 PM)

Authorities: cigarette smuggling ring linked to Capital Region

ALBANY - Authorities have linked a cigarette smuggling ring with ties to stores in Albany and Schenectady counties to known terrorists.

The state Attorney General's Office has charged 16 people in the case. They're accused of selling untaxed cigarettes up and down the east coast.

One of the stores includes the House of Juan in Westgate Plaza in Albany. The state Tax and Finance Department raided the store back in April. One employee was arrested.

ALBANY – On Thursday, September 26, comedian Russell Peters will be bringing his rock-star brand of comedy to The Palace Theatre.

Russell Peters has sold out arenas around the world with his Notorious World Tour, including the new Barclay’s arena making it the largest comedy event ever held in Brooklyn.

Tickets are $28-$98 and are available at The Palace Box Office or ONLINE HERE.

Latham landmark goes up in flames

LATHAM - A Latham landmark is likely a complete loss after an afternoon fire.

The Handy Andy Plaza on 155 went up in flames after an electrical fire started on the roof.

The plaza is also home to vintage pizza but it's unclear if the restaurant is gone, too.

Fire investigators don't yet know what caused the fire but contractors were recently working in the building.

Tractor trailer accident causes power outages, road closures

LATHAM - A tractor trailer knocked down four utility poles this morning.

Police say the accident happened on Kunker Avenue, near the Latham Circle.

No one was injured.

Several road closures are in effect for the most of the day.

Kunker Avenue from Route 9 to Old Loudon Road as well as Old Loudon Road from Troy-Schenectady Road to Park Avenue.

No word yet on the cause of the accident.
