Radiothon raises over $626,000 for Children’s Hospital at Albany Med

LATHAM– Over $626,000 was raised for the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center during the annual Cares for Kids Radiothon May 2-3.

810 & 103-1 WGY and 99.5 The River broadcasted live for more than 30 hours from Albany Medical Center on May 2-3, to raise vital funds for the Children’s Hospital.

“It takes a dedicated team of hospital and radio station volunteers to make the Radiothon a success, but the true heroes are the children and the families being helped by these efforts,” said Josh Everett, 810 & 103-1 WGY's Program Director.  “Their courage and willingness to share sometimes difficult and painful experiences, along with the victories, is truly what compels others to give so generously.”

Lawmakers: convicted colleagues deserve pension forfeiture

ALBANY - To say there was disappointment at the State Capitol on Monday might have been an understatement. After Senator John Sampson (D - Brooklyn) was arrested on corruption charges, lawmakers showed up for work in Albany more determined than ever to clean up the mess that has cast a dark shadow over all of them.

Everyone agrees the stench of political scandal needs to be disinfected immediately and the best way to do it, some say, is to hit the offenders where it hurts them the most -- directly in their pension pocketbooks.

When the political scandals rock the state house, it affects everyone and everything, according to Assemblyman John McDonald (D - Cohoes).

"They are a major distraction to the legislative process," McDonald insists.

The scandals are also pushing angry lawmakers more quickly toward ethics reform.
