Bike ride for Amy Seyboth-Tirador

COLONIE - Amy Seyboth-Tirador should have been coming home from her tour of duty overseas very soon.

Instead, family and friends are planning a big memorial event in her honor.

It's a ride to remember the Army staff sergeant whose death still remains a mystery to loved ones.

It's something Amy's dad, Jerry Seyboth, does everyday. He loves to go riding on his motorcycle.

"I said we'll get together and take a ride to the cemetery," said Jerry.

Before he knew it, his friends in a local motorcycle club were planning a big event.

"We're going to call it Amy's Ride, he said."

Flyers were posted, T-shirts were printed and now they're preparing for about 200 bikers to rev their engines and hit the road to remember the hometown hero.

"I think it's going to be one of the biggest events this summer to tell you the truth, and I'm glad because my daughter deserves it," Jerry said.

Seyboth-Tirador was killed in Iraq by a single gun shot wound behind the ear on Nov. 4. The Army investigated the tragedy for months until ruling it a suicide in March.

The family says that can't possibly be the case, but they can get through each day with the love and support of their caring Colonie community.

The ride will take off from Colonie High School Saturday morning, where Amy was a student with a passion for music and, above all, serving others.

Ride registration is 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday. The kick stands go up at 11:30 a.m. It's $20 for riders and $10 for passengers. If you don't ride by you want to show your support, people will gather at the American Legion Zaloga Post on Everett Road, where Amy is a life member, at 3 p.m.

The money raised will go into a scholarship fund for the Colonie High School music department -- a group Amy was a member of for four years.
