Congressman Tonko to announce art competition winners

 

TROY – On Monday, May 13, Congressman Paul Tonko will announce the winners of the Congressional Art Competition during an event that will showcase all work that was submitted.

More than 40 pieces of work were submitted from 19 area schools. The winning artwork will be displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C.

The artwork was reviewed by a volunteer panel of judges from the Capital Region arts community.

The competition was started in 1982 as an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents.

The event will be held at the Arts Center of the Capital Region on River Street from 5-6:30 p.m.

Shen colorguard to hold farewell performance

 

CLIFTON PARK - The Shen Colorguard teams will give a final farewell performance Tuesday evening for friends and family.  Following is more information:

The 4 Shen colorguard teams attended the State Championships this past weekend in Syracuse NY. 

3 of the teams won silver medals and one of the teams won a gold medal.  This is great achievement for our students and the Shen colorguard program.

Tonight our Varsity and JV programs will depart for the World Championships being held in Dayton, OH. 

The farewell performance will be held at 9:00pm at the Gowana Middle School on the Shen Campus.

SCHENECTADY – On Tuesday, April 9, Capital Region audiences will get the chance to experience the magic of Peter Pan at Proctors Theater.

The six-day run of this classic show stars legendary Broadway actress Cathy Rigby in the starring role. The show also stars two of Broadway's finest actors, Brent Barret and Kim Crosby.

Peter Pan is a family friendly spectacle full of timeless moments and a story that will inspire anyoen who see's it.

African Children's Choir comes to Colonie during first US tour

 

COLONIE – The Africian Children's Choir will be performing in Colonie during their first US tour.

The choir will perform at Pine Grove United Methodist Church on Friday, April 5th at 7 p.m.

They will sing well-loved children’s songs, traditional spirituals and rhythmic gospel favorites.

Admission is free and open to the public, and there will be a free-will offering will follow the concert. 

Radio Heaven at St. Rose

 

ALBANY – Beginning on Friday, April 19, The College of Saint Rose Drama Program will present Radio Heaven.

The show will give audiences the chance to not only hear, but to see what old radio was like over 50 years ago.

Audiences will enjoy the classic soap opera, comedy, suspense, and how-to shows, complete with commercials and the Foley machine sound effects as well as the keyboard accompaniment.

Seating is limited and there are no reservations. Tickets are $5 for St. Rose students and $10 for the general public. Shows are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

SPAC Board of Directors to hold Spring Meeting

 

COLONIE - Saratoga Performing Arts Center’s Board of Directors will hold their spring meeting on Thursday, March 28.

Board members will be reviewing financial and operational matters including the organization's annual audit of the 2012 fiscal year and marketing initiatives for the upcoming season.

The at meeting will be held at 3 p.m. at The Desmond Hotel located at 660 Albany Shaker Rd.

Aziz Ansari comes to The Palace

Aziz Ansari comes to The Palace

 

ALBANY – On Tuesday, May 14, comedian Aziz Ansari will bring his special brand of comedy to The Palace Theatre.

Ansari currently co-stars on the hit, Emmy nominated NBC comedy Parks and Recreation. He has released his second comedy special and been named the Funniest Man under 30 by Rolling Stone as well as one of the Top 10 Comedians of the Decade by Paste Magazine.
