Salon & Spa holds ribbon cutting, grand opening

 

COLONIE - A year after opening, and with double the staff, Evo Salon & Spa in Colonie is finally ready to celebrate their hard earned success by holding a grand opening ceremony on Thursday, May 16.

“Yes – It’s one year delayed, but this is our opportunity to show the residents of Colonie, N.Y. that we’re here to stay!” explains Dillion.

An official ribbon cutting will take place at 2:30 p.m.

Colonie Historical Society holds 42nd Annual Dinner Meeting and Presentation

 

LOUDONVILLE – The Historical Society of the Town of Colonie will hold their 42nd Annual Dinner Meeting on May 15.

The event will include a special presentation by Michael P. Barrett called “Troy in the Civil War.”

The reception is at 5:30pm with dinner at 6:30pm. at the Shaker Ridge Country Club in Loudonville. 

The cost is $35.00 for singles; $60.00 for couples and reservations are due by May 8.

Capital Region's Largest PolishFest Returns

 

LATHAM - The Blessed Virgin Mary of Czestochowa Parish is holding its annual PolishFest from May 31 through June 2. Following is more information:

PolishFest is the Capital Region’s largest Polish cultural festival.  There will be traditional Polish festival foods in addition to a gourmet Polish dinner with table service (please reserve on line, space is limited).

There will be hard to find imported Polish beer abd constant music, including the Five +1 Band, The Rymonowski Brothers, and Donny P & the Celebration, as well as a Chopin Piano Concert. St Adalbert’s Dancers and the BVMC Little Polish Folk Dancers will be giving folk dance demonstrations. 

There also will be craft vendors, children’s activities, an art exhibit and more. 

PolishFest will be held at 250 Old Maxwell Road in Latham from 4-9 p.m.

Admission is $3 a day, or purchase a three day pass and save $3.

CLIFTON PARK – The Canal Corporation is participating in Earth Day Events Along the Canal, and are looking for volunteers. Following is more information:

Volunteer organizations, municipalities and individuals are invited to join the New York State Canal Corporation staff for the 8th annual “Canal Clean Sweep,” scheduled for the weekend of April 19-21, 2013.

In recognition of Earth Day and in advance of the 189th consecutive navigation season and the summer tourism season, community groups and others are encouraged to participate in the spring cleaning  events to prepare and beautify  the Canal system and Canalway Trail.

Individuals or groups interested in joining others in this cooperative clean-up effort should consult the Parks & Trails New York events list here. 

Basketball Competition

 

TROY – On Sunday, April 14, more than 80 athletes and coaches from around the Capital Region will compete in the Capital District Local Basketball Competition.

The event, sponsored by the RPI Student Athlete Advisory Committee, will allow local athletes and coaches to showcase their skills and compete for awards.

All events are free and open to the public.

Athlete and volunteer registration begins at 12 p.m. with an opening ceremony at 12:45 p.m.

On Tuesday, April 9, Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops around the world will host the 34th annual Free Cone Day.

The Annual event is a ‘thank-you’ to fans.

The event also and celebrates the introduction of three new Greek frozen yogurt flavors.

CLIFTON PARK –  There will be a ‘Books and Brunch’ event held at The Vista

Van Patten Golf Course on April 20.

In addition to the The event will feature the jazz piano of Dr. Tim Olsen, Director of the Union College Jazz Ensemble and a brunch.  

There will also be a raffle, and copies of Unbroken will be available for $5.00. 

The event will be held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
