'Extreme Makeover' family member busted for possessing child porn | News

COLONIE - After a month-long investigation, police said one of the children from the Colonie family who appeared on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” has been charged with possessing child pornography.

Police say 20-year-old Brian Oatman-Gaitan, who now lives in Albany, had several computers and media storage devices containing child pornography.

They said Oatman-Gaitan previously worked at the Colonie Youth Center and worked at Southgate School, Loudonville School and Saddlewood School’s afterschool programs, but they said he has not worked at the center since January 2012. Oatman-Gaitan also volunteered at the Colonie Town Library during their anime classes.

Police said the investigation revealed that Oatman-Gaitain may have secretly taken pictures children in a non-criminal manner while working at the center. There are no identified victims in these photos and no information to suggest Oatman-Gaitan had inappropriate physical contact with any children.

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” remade Oatman-Gaitan’s house in March 2007. The house went up for sale last year.

Oatman-Gaitan was charged with possessing a sexual performance by a child and was arraigned in Colonie Justice Court and taken to Albany County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court May 7.

Additional charges are possible pending the completion of the New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit’s examination.
