Police: Car sought in Colonie hit and run may not have been involved
News

COLONIE - There is new information on the deadly hit and run accident in Colonie that happened Monday night. Police say the green sedan first sought may not have been involved in the crash.

Police have identified the victim but have not released his identity because they still have to notify his next of kin. They describe him as a 57-year-old man who was living in a motel near the accident scene.

Last night, around 9 p.m. at least one driver ran over the man on Central Avenue in front of the bus shelter near the Burger King near the Kmart. Police said he was run over by the entire car and the driver took off.

Police said the car they were previously looking for actually made a U-turn to go alert police of the body in the street.

This section of Central Avenue has seen other accidents in past years and at least three people have been killed in the last three to five years.

A firefighter who responded last night collapsed at the scene. He is also a Colonie police officer and NewsChannel 13 was told he is doing well Tuesday.
