Poll shows Cuomo with 70 percent approval

 

LOUDONVILLE - Gov. Andrew Cuomo's honeymoon with New York State seems to be off to a good start.

The Siena Research Institute released its latest poll Monday morning. 

According to a sampling of almost 800 registered voters surveyed, four out of five
New Yorkers with an opinion think Andrew Cuomo is doing a good job in his first two weeks as Governor.

Albany County has updated their website with a list of local laws and resolutions passed during the December 21 legislative meeting.

The majority of the items concern appropriating money or tax levies for 2011. There is also a resolution that amends the 2011 budget. The legislature also discussed and passed a resolution authorizing the hiring of certain critical positions necessary for departmental reorganizations under the early retirement incentive.

Town Board releases 2011 meeting schedule

The Colonie Town Board has released the schedule for their 2011 meetings.

The board will meet twice each month during 2011, as listed below.  All meetings begin at 7 p.m., except for the annual Organizational Meeting on January 6, 2011, which will begin at 6 p.m. The Organizational Meeting is a regular Town Board meeting conducted for the purpose of organizing the Town of Colonie’s activities for the year 2011.

The 2011 Town Board meetings will be held on the following dates, each of which falls on a Thursday:

The Albany County Legislature will be holding a public hearing on Tuesday, January 25.

The meeting will focus on proposed modifications to agricultural district number 3 and updating a local law requiring item pricing in retail stores. The hearing will take place at 7:15 p.m. in the Cahill Room of the Albany County Office Building.

A public hearing schedule will be updated each month, after the legislative meetings when the Legislature approves resolutions setting the dates of upcoming public hearings. The legislature holds public hearings on proposed local laws, the County’s capital plan and other specific issues before adoption of legislation.

After a lot of argument, the Albany County budget will be put to a vote Monday night.

County legislators and executive Michael Breslin are deeply divided on the issue. Breslin says the legislature's budget, which is the one up for vote Monday, cannot sustain itself.

The legislature has cut the tax hike in Breslin's proposed budget and reduced the layoffs. The county nursing home would also remain open.

Several fire districts to elect new commissioner

Colonie residents living within several fire districts will be voting to elect a new commissioner at their annual election on December 14 from 5 to 9 p.m.

The Stanford Heights, Schuyler Heights, Midway, and West Albany Fire Districts will all be holding an election that day. Any resident of these fire districts registered by November 22 will be eligible to vote.

Those elected to the position will be serving as the commissioner for a five-year term beginning on January 1.

County releases agendas for three legislative meetings

Albany County has released the agendas for three legislative committee meetings.

On the agenda for the Health Committee are 27 items. These include a resolution to the county Board of Health to repeal the ban on artificial trans fats on bakeries and establishing a letter grading system for food establishments, amongst others.

The Audit and Finance Committee will also discuss over 20 items at their meeting, including a resolution that prohibits the sale of in rem foreclosed property without recouping county costs and one that requests the NYS legislature to enact an amendment to the tax law that would authorize the county to increase the sales and use tax.
