Public Invited to Historic Preservation Commission Meeting

 

CLIFTON PARK – The Clifton Park Historic Preservation Commission has invited the public to attend its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, May 16.

The Commission will celebrate May as Historic Preservation Month with guest speaker Kathleen LaFrank of the National Register Staff, State Historic Preservation office.

The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the  Historic Grooms Tavern on the corner of Grooms and Sugarhill roads. Free refreshments will be served.

COLONIE – The past weekend marked the grand opening of the newest and largest ShopRite in the Capital Region in Colonie.

This is the fourth ShopRite to open in the Capital Region in the last 18 months.

Operation ‘Please Remember Me’ looks for community support

 

COLONIE – The Town of Colonie will honor over 1,200 fallen heroes from the Capital District in a unique way this spring, and they are looking to the local community to help.

The project, titled Operation: Please Remember Me’ aims to support the heroes of the Capital District by hanging 140 flags along Route 9 in Colonie.

The flags will be hung from Memorial Day Observance on May 18 through July 6.

To support the project, community members or local businesses can purchase a flag and give a donation.

Zoning Board meeting location changed

 

WATERVLIET - The Watervliet Zoning Board meeting’s location has been changed.

The meeting, set for 7 p.m. Wednesday night has been moved from the City Court to the Watervliet Senior Citizen's Center.

January 26 program explores early exploits of Benedict Arnold

 

LATHAM – The New York Military Museum Program is focusing on a traitor who was once a Hero. Following is more information:

Before he was a traitor, Benedict Arnold was an American hero and the New York State Military Museum and Friends of the Saratoga Battlefield will co-sponsor a program about one of his early exploits on January 26.

Presented by Revolutionary War historian and Saratoga National Battlefield seasonal ranger Larry Arnold, the talk will focus on one of Arnold's early exploits, when he raided a British fort.

The talk:" Arnold on Arnold: May 18, 1775; The Day Benedict Arnold saves America's Revolution" will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday January 26.

While Benedict Arnold is best known today for his failed plot to sell out the American Army at West Point, as well as General George Washington, Arnold was famous for his bold attacks against the British.

Town of Colonie holds annual Tree Lighting

Town of Colonie holds annual Tree Lighting

 

NEWTONVILLE –The Town of Colonie’s Annual Tree Lighting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6 outside of Memorial Town Hall.

“It’s always a pleasure to see the Town’s tree come alive with lights.  It extends our best wishes to all for a joyful holiday season and for all good things in the year to come,” said Supervisor Mahan.

Cookies, candy canes, hot chocolate, and coffee will be served in the Main Court Room immediately following the tree-lighting. 

The event is free and open to the public.

Albany Parking Authority offers Seasonal Discount

ALBANY – The Albany Parking Authority announces a Seasonal Savings special for December through March.

Drivers may get a monthly parking permit to any of the Authority’s three downtown garages for only $100 a month, up to four months.
